Natalia Luque will be exposed from March 4, until March 25, 2004 in the representarte art gallery of Barcelona; a series of paintings on cloth in mixed technique.
When did you start having the anxiety or feeling to paint?
My anxiety of the plastic arts has always been with me since I was quite small, but I did not predict drawing, coloring, modeling, trimming, and creating what was going to transcend in the election of my profession.
Which painters have influenced your works? By which ones do you have special predilection?
All the images (televised or physical) that we watch each day, they are already pictorial, sculptors, architectural, decorative, ornamentals; they remain registered and retained, that after the awareness, it is personalized, synthesized, and concocted giving rise to an own image designed according to your form of expression. Therefore, so much with its philosophy and thought as with its artistic purpose I get along well with the vanguards. And the most influential artists in my work are: Dubuffet, Rothko, Duchamp, Arp, Tapies, Saura, and Picasso among many others.
Which themes more please you to reflect in your pictorial work?
The themes that resort in my work are simple and routine. I do not concentrate on a single theme, but to the processing of the same one. For example: The representation of a hole punctured in a fish or that of the family, the love, the ambiguity of the things or the abstract representation of themes as the distance, the empty one, the solitudes always have different themes, but with a same processing as the pictorial theory and the synthesis of the idea.
Do you believe the artist should use the technique so that an artist can be expressed?
Without technique there is not work. The technique is one of the medias that the artist chooses from anywhere and according to its capacity it can be unfolded within them. When the artist chooses a technique or more than one, to carry out their work, it should be because it is the most harmonious one to their creative personality or because it is easier to transmit and to create.
Do you think that someone is born an artist or is it learned?
There is a certain sensibility and perception an artist should have, whether
innate or by means of learning. The emotion, the impulse, the energy that causes creation, that when you sit down to transmit them on cloth through the pencil or simply to touch before a picture, I think that is neither learned nor taught.
Can you define your pictorial style?
The pictorial style that defines my work is the mirror where I am reflected; in it is my reflected thoughts, experiences, fears, intentions, desires, and my secrets. Of all ways, its abandonment is in the hands of the critic of art or the spectator and they give their opinion.
What is your purpose as a painter?
My purpose to paint is a way to escape my feelings and at the same time I try to teach people what I do.
What should be the role of the painter in the present company?
The role of the painter, as that of any professional, should be that of a person. On the other hand the artist should have more resources, possibilities of marketing, and work because only the art would be integrated more in the life of the citizen and it would teach them to look at it and to learn the view arriving the day in which a picture doesn’t only serve to fill a wall of a house. The life of the artist today for the present I see uncertain.
In the works that exposes Natalia Luque in representarte, you will see that it is delicate and imaginative compositions which will seduce us from the routine life with its sentimental and vital worries.
