Francisco De Pajaro
I DO NOT CONCEIVE MY LIFE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CREATE
I seek in the depth of myself to express my feelings.
When I am uneasy I use the acrylic and I make a “quick painting”, and when I am calm I paint with oil where I find relaxation. Francisco De Pájaro will be exposed from May 6, 2004 until May 31, 2004 in the representarte art gallery of Barcelona; a series of paintings with oil.

When did your artistic anxieties begin?
My anxiety to paint came when I was a kid. When I was six years old, I began experiencing with artistic drawings. In the school, I used to add drawings on the photographs of the books. I used to observe the things around me. I memorized the contour of the objects and then I drew them on paper.

Which are the themes that more please you to reflect in your paintings?
The thematic of my paintings is what it happens to me. I try to show my dreams or nightmares. I show what affects me and what excites me. I represent the people and the human condition. I am very sensitive and this can be felt in my painting.

How would you define your painting and what techniques do you use in your pictures?
My painting is deeply intimate and a bit tragic. I look in the depth of myself to find my feelings. When I feel uneasy I use acrylic and I do “quick paintings”, and when I am calm I paint with oil because I find relaxation.

Which painters have influenced your work? Which ones give you special predilection? Why?
At first the impressionists of Renoir got my attention. Unconsciously my painting approaches Picasso, Dalí, Bacon. I have special predilection about the work of Frida Kahlo, because of her expressive authenticity.

What should be the role of the painter in the present society?
Just as any working person. In my case, to be a better person each day. To be modest and honest and to be thankful that I am able to represent my life on canvas and enjoy it.

In your opinion, is a person born an artist or do they learn to become an artist?
I believe the painter is born. I was years without painting and then later, I knew that I had to do it. I do not conceive my life without being able to create. It would not have any sense.

Do you believe the artist should be sincere when he is expressing his feelings in his work?
If you are not sincere, you will be more of what we are living in society, the hypocrisy. One must be himself, one must be authentic.

Do you believe that technique is necessary so that the artist can be expressed?
Each one should use the technique what obtains better technique. One must test and investigate with different materials. One must make a mistake, one must solve, one must dirty; to return to beginning, one must continue discovering.

Do you believe that there is discrimination of sex in the world of paintings?
I do not think so. The painting is one itself. It does not discriminate between sexes, neither the color or the persons, the ideologies, or the religion. The painting is like music, it is liberty continued and does not have an end.

In the works that are exposed in the representarte gallery of Francisco De Pájaro seduce us because it shows his dreams and his nightmares. His painting attracts us intimate and tragic, the force of his colors and his imaginative compositions where evoke the routine life with their sentimental and vital worries.
